Kitsilano Condos
Some of the most vibrant areas of Kitsilano are characterized by the large volume of apartments. Many of these are walk-up rental blocks that have been around for decades, ideal for the seniors, students and young professionals who give local streets a socio-economic diversity that acts as a counterpoint to the spicier Latin feel of Commercial Drive.
A growing number of new condos in Kitsilano respond to the area’s popularity. Condos have also increased density in this genteel counterpart to downtown’s West End. Broadway is a key area for new construction, with many developers anticipating rapid transit development along this key east-west artery. Once the epicentre of hippie culture in Vancouver, Kitsilano is home to buildings that aim to preserve a more intimate way of living in community.
One-bedroom and two-bedroom suites dominate, but several buildings offer penthouses (or the equivalent) with views of English Bay and the North Shore mountains. Apartments in Kitsilano typically cluster near shops and services, including the retail hubs of Granville Island, West 4th Avenue, Arbutus Street and Broadway west of Macdonald Street. This means daily necessities as well as social life is never far away. The cost? Prices are comfortably between the benchmarks for apartments on the city’s east and west sides.
